As markets change, terminology changes, too. The MidMarketer world is filled with expressions and acronyms packed with opportunity…and sometimes confusion. When you need to understand “what they’re talking about,” check out the MidMarketer glossary. You’ll not only get the definition, but a MidMarketer editorial aiming you in the right direction, or at least giving you our opinion on the subject.
Co-Registration
The practice in which an organization, when collecting registration/subscription information from users (email sign-up forms, shopping checkout process, etc.), offers the user the opportunity to also sign up for another organization's (third-party) offers.
Co-registration can be a really great way to sign up a lot of quality subscribers. It's a widely accepted and very successful method of reaching a wider audience than you might be able to on your own. If your site generates minimal traffic, it gives you the opportunity to build your opt-in list fast. It is important to make sure you're getting quality e-mail addresses. You'll want to make sure that your subscription offer is placed alongside offers that target your specific market. If your offer is a newsletter about in-home child care, for example, then it probably won't be very successful if it's grouped with a bunch of newsletters about software design.
