Meta Tag
A type of HTML tag that provides information about the web page. Unlike normal HTML tags, meta tags do not affect how the page is displayed. It is placed in the head tag to give search engines the specific description they should use in their database, and the keywords you want your page associated with.
Since Search Engines make use of meta tags for their rankings, if your meta tags aren't properly developed, your site will suffer.
