As markets change, terminology changes, too. The MidMarketer world is filled with expressions and acronyms packed with opportunity…and sometimes confusion. When you need to understand “what they’re talking about,” check out the MidMarketer glossary. You’ll not only get the definition, but a MidMarketer editorial aiming you in the right direction, or at least giving you our opinion on the subject.
Tracking URL
A specific URL that identifies information about the resulting clicks. A referring search engine, keyword, ad listing, and landing page can all be included in a tracking URL.
Tracking URLs can be created in-house or automatically generated by an ad tracking program. These URLs must be given to the search engines in order for resulting clicks and/or sales to be tracked. For Example: Let's say you want to run an ad campaign by placing an ad in your newsletter for a product found on your web page - http://www.mycompany.com. You first would decide on a code unique to this campaign, in this case a code "XXXX" would be just fine. The resulting tracking URL would be (in this case) http://www.mycompany.com/?campaign=XXXX
