As markets change, terminology changes, too. The MidMarketer world is filled with expressions and acronyms packed with opportunity…and sometimes confusion. When you need to understand “what they’re talking about,” check out the MidMarketer glossary. You’ll not only get the definition, but a MidMarketer editorial aiming you in the right direction, or at least giving you our opinion on the subject.
Unique Visitor
A unique human visitor (not a search engine robot) who is entering a Web site for the first time (within some specified time period). Thus, a visitor that returns within the same specified time period is not counted twice. Also known as a unique session.
Make sure you understand the ratio of unique visitors to total visits to your Web site. This can give you insight if you have the same people using the site, or people are not coming back. A good measurement to review over time (as a trend) is the unique visitors compared to the total visits percentage.
