You’ll not only get the definition, but a MidMarketer editorial aiming you in the right direction, or at least giving you our opinion on the subject.
WYSIWYG
An acronym for "What You See Is What You Get," The main idea behind a WYSIWYG editor is that it allows you to generate HTML code by using a simple text editor. You don't need to know how to program HTML. You simply enter your text, pick colors, fonts, styles (bold, italic), etc. and then the editor produces the HTML code for use in a web page.
One needs to be careful when using a WYSIWYG for HTML code that will be used in an HTML email. HTML email code is a bit different than web site HTML, and as a result some WYSIWYG editors will provide HTML code that will cause bizarre results when viewed in certain email clients. It's always a good idea to test your HTML email messages in a variety of email clients to be sure that the images render properly. If using an Email Service Provider, they should provide the tools to test your messages.
